NOT FINISHED COOKING
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
Head down
toe to toe
I'll back down
Been here before
Blow up
shatter glass
growl til I cry
and make a mess
Break my teeth
knot in my gut
adrenaline shakes
igniting blood
little child
baby boy
rage of a man
busting toys
I was born of love
I was raised in love
I'm not done yet
I'm not finished cooking
Growing up
metamorph
the whole wide world
of opening doors
Fall in love
find the touch
don't know her mind
so it's not enough
Need too much
choke it out
swing for infinity
lose to the doubt
little child
baby boy
burn through the love
that you enjoy
I was born of love
I was raised in love
I'm not done yet
I'm not finished cooking
48 fight
constantly
to be the man
I want to be
Squeezing a heart
or pounding the dirt
it seems like love
is the source of the hurt
passion and rage
halves of a whole
it's not about love
it's about control
Little child
baby boy
open your hands
and let it go

Someone Much Better

that hasn't been said
by someone much better than me

I DON'T WANNA LOVE IN TEXAS
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
I was eating a flat iron steak
on a westbound Amtrak train
I was going from Chicago to Dallas
then turn around and do it again
I was sitting with a stranger
eating steak and enjoying a beer
would've been more awkward not to talk to him
so I bent him an ear
He'd been out east visiting family
from his east Texas home
he'd moved there to build the wind farms
and he lived there all alone
I said "You don't have a wife or girlfriend"
as the train slid through the miles
he looked out the window and took a drink
and then I saw him smile
He said
I don't wanna love in Texas
I don't want anything tying me here
I don't wanns a beautiful woman
blowing Texas air in my ear
I don't wanna put no roots down
don't wanna plant no family tree
I don't want no Texas arms
holding on to me
(Solo)
He said,
please don't get me wrong, son
I like Ol' Tejas fine
the weather suits my constitution
and the sky is big and wide
In my heart it's not my home
I haven't found my place just yet
I haven't seen enough of this planet
to have turned up a table to set
so
I don't wanna love in Texas
I don't want anything tying me here
I don't wanna a beautiful woman
blowing Texas air in my ear
I don't wanna put no roots down
don't wanna plant no family tree
I don't want no Texas arms
holding on to me
(solo)
He got off in Texarkana
walked away from the train alone
I rolled on to Dallas
did my thing and went back home
and all these years later
his words echo in my ear
have I seen enough of this great, big world
to know I belong here
(Chorus)

NOSTADAMUS AND NOSFERATU
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
Nostradamus
and Nosferatu
a strange pairing
that is true
Nostradamus would follow
where the thread would lead
Nosferatu would use that
to figure out where to feed
An unsteady alliance
for sure
but their intentions
were fairly pure
as Nostradamus
would write his quatrain
and Nosferatu
would hunt for blood to drain
They met in the back
of an ale house
where lights were low
and there was no crowd
They were both tired
of the game
and saw in each other a
chance to change
Nostradamus said
"my vision is long
I can see so far
and see so much wrong
I want to do more
than I can do
to change the outcome
of my view"
Nosferatu said
"I'm just a beast
There's never a purpose
only the feast
I want more reason
behind the things I do
more significance to
the victims I choose
It was here that
the deal was made
between the prophet
and the evening Shade
they use their talents
to shape the world
change the direction
time and blood swirled
Nostradamus would
gaze through time
find a fiend then
follow the line
Nosferatu would
hunt his prey
end the bloodline
and make the change
Future visions
began to shift
Nostradamus was precise
Nosferatu was swift
But Nostradamus
found a pain in his head
the cracks they were making
by making the dead
He could see with
through his prophet eyes
where they made a change
a different evil
would rise
Some worse than
the ones before
he knew they couldn't
keep this up anymore
One night they met
under threatening weather
"Nosferatu, we're not
making things any better.
It was folly to think
we'd improve future days
we should stop this now
go our separate ways."
Nosferatu was angry
he snarled and growled
"But I'm not just a beast now
and of that I am proud!
I haven't changed what I am
but changed what I do
I'm more than a monster
all thanks to you."
Nostradamus declined
"these visions must end
and go back to our paths
to walk alone, my friend"
Nostradaums said
"We're breaking all time and space"
Nosferatu just nodded
and then ate his face

Once Around, Molly

ONCE AROUND, MOLLY
(Words and music by Eric Peter Schwartz)
I remember watching you
in the hot Missouri sun
birthday cake on your lips
splashing until the day was done
It's just one of a million
tiny lights that burn in me
when I look into your blue eyes
my my my Sweet Pea
(Chorus)
So let's go
once around, Molly
Let's go
once around
Take my hand
please, Molly
let's show them
the things we've found
Bungalow in oil lamp light
clouds churning in a Kansas sky
sitting with you, storm rolling in
a woman's face with the same blue eyes
(CHORUS)
(BRIDGE)
I remember watching you
under the hot Missouri sun
across a table of vodka and seafood
your easy smile to everyone
Now every day that passes
I glow with pride for you
your kindness, your love, your humanity
and those glorious eyes of blue
(Chorus)

And Then She Goes
03:18
|
|||
AND THEN SHE GOES
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
A little gold
to complete the circuit
a little heat to
warm the skin
a little oil to ease
the movement
pour the wine
put the battery in
A few candles to
aid the romance
a few petals from
a rose
flip the switch
engage the OS
a little music
and then she goes
a little drink
to take the edge off
lithium ion
solar charge
a new outit
fix the hair up
turn on the wi fi
check for bars
High count
Egyptian cotton
lavender
essential oil
AI
Bio data mining
a little music
and then she goes
Plug her in
take a shower
make coffee
towel dry
make notes
in your science journal
in detail
about last night
A little bit
less objective
a little strange
in the afterglow
you want to
get back to it
a little music
and then she goes
she kisses like
a real woman
soft and warm
and wet and wise
a twinge of guilt
about your plaything
does she feel
look in her eyes
All of this
was for science
is this love now
do you suppose
hold her hand
kiss her forehead
a little music
and then she goes

Restoration

RESTORATION
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
Every picture that goes through your hands
you brighten
every room you walk into
seems to lighten
And I know you'll argue
but I'm the lucky one
It sets your Irish eyes aglow
when we smile
And you'll refill our glasses
if you had to trudge a thousand miles
And I know you'll argue
but I'm the lucky one
Oh the love you bring
with kindness and patience
to my mother and me
it's like restoration
For a twilight dance on an Irish beach
you're my guy
When I am on the other side of the world
you're my Samurai
And I know you'll argue
but I'm the lucky one
You blew into our lives loud and strong
like a hurricane
retrieved our hearts from the tracks
of an oncoming train
And I know you'll argue
but I'm the lucky one
Oh the love you bring
with kindness and patience
to my mother and me
is like restoration
If I had it to do again
you'd be the one I'd choose
thankfully my son has never known
a world without you
So maybe in the end
my son's the lucky one
Oh the love you bring
with kindness and patience
to my mother, my son and me
is like restoration

RISKY KISS ON KONGENS GATE
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
They say honey doesn't go bad
but this honey was wrong
I met her in an Oslo cab
during the midnight sun
Brown over blue
pale balcony with a view
A hidden door to slip through
a risky kiss to fall into
she knew a secret bunker
where the Oslogjengen used to stash their arms
The smell of lavender and gun oil
melted me into her charms
Brown over blue
pale balcony with a view
A hidden door to slip through
a risky kiss to fall into
(spoken)
She took me to a tiny
attic not far from Akershus Fortress
and the next 13 hours are a cherry blossom blur
of music and Hansa Pilsner and skin
The next morning, I think it was morning,
I stumbled fog headed out onto
Kongen's Gate and never saw her again
I thought "I like Norway"
They say honey doesn't go bad
but that honey was wrong
honey spun my head
and shook the ground I've been walking on
Brown over blue
pale balcony with a view
A hidden door to slip through
a risky kiss to fall into

Better at Saturday Night

BETTER AT SATURDAY NIGHT
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
Drive two hours west
to the Iowa line
away from the city
traffic is fine
an hour and a half early
sittin' at the bar killing time
Just sitting and thinking
staring into my beer
eavesdropping on locals
what do they want to hear
what they're buying on the jukebox
until my conscience is clear
I'll be working tonight
sweating for bread
nervous that I don't have
all the songs in my head
Christ, I'm almost fifty
I should buy a music stand instead
Bartender grabs a lime
and slides back the lid
They all know each other in here
they all know each others kids
what shit they've been going through
and where the bodies are hid
I check my phone
still 15 minutes to go
folks cast a glance
and wonder about the show
a guy asks what I play
I chuckle "I don't rightly know"
Their evening is relaxed
their laughter is real
they're here to erase
the exact anxieties I feel
tonight as I play
but that's the deal
I am luck to be up here
and to be what I be
and from behind this microphone
I can clearly see
everyone in this place
is better at Saturday night
than me

CONGRATULATIONS, I HATE YOU
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
You're like a little brat
in your big boy suit
pretending to do the things
important people do
You're used to chocolate cake
and doing what you please
you just were not
built for days like these
I'm a bleeding heart
but I've been pushed too far
congratulations
I hate you
I'm a bleeding heart
and I try so hard
congratulations
I hate you
Don't pretend
you don't know who I'm talking about
you're discolored by a delusion
I can't wrap my brain around
You put on your "important" face
and you play to the mob
you're like a televangelist
without the God
(Chorus)
You've demonized
people I love
you wouldn't know love
if it spanked you
The funny thing
about the crowd you play to
they're gonna turn on you
they all ways do
Good luck
(Chorus)

Good Night, Aurora

GOOD NIGHT, AURORA
(words and music by E.P. Schwartz)
Seventy miles as the crow flies
to where the place of my birth lies
So somewhere between here and Gary
I will probably be buried
Good night, good night, Aurora
I never really got away
I never thought you were big enough
to hold all these things in my head
somehow you convinced me to stay
All my love resides
even when the horizon's in my eyes
So no matter where this guitar makes me roam
I will follow this song home
Good night, good night, Aurora
I never really got away
Seems you were big enough
to hold all these things in my heart
and staying here is the price I gladly pay
LA sweetly sang my name
London did the same
and as my dreams criss crossed the years
they finally sat down to rest here
Another night on this porch of mine
more and more it's where I spend my time
listening to the city under the street light
like two old friends saying good night
Good night, good night, Aurora
I never really got away
Seems I can't get rid
of the things in my heart and head
but if you'll have me, I will stay
